I feel so vindicated. 🙂 What cracked me up most? He used high school sports as an example to include in your blog, or ongoing conversation. Go figure. Seems like I’ve read that somewhere before.

Yes, I’ve started a series of informational pieces on my business blog that might take a year to cover all areas, nooks and crannies, but I believe a hyper-local conversation with the consumer is the way to go.

I think I am noticing what you are talking about, I have 2 wordpress blogs, both setup exactly the same and both started about the same time. firefox shows one at a PR3 and shows the other at a PR0. The PR3 has about half as many posts to it, and i have done virtually nothing to promote it, other than write in it. The PR0 blog, I have built links to it, used it when visiting blogs like this one as my link too, but still is languishes, and cannot rank for much of anything. The only difference between the two is the PR3 is about a niche, and some of the same key words are used in almost every post, and the same 3 or 4 categories are used over and over again. The PR0 has been a little less focused, as I changed what I was trying to write about after a few months, and I am writing about 5 different towns. Any advice???

Mike — It’s a total coinky dink, but just this week I’ve been toying with the idea of a separate blog for San Diego. Even then it wouldn’t be for the whole region, not by a long shot.
Then Brian rained all over my Happy Feet Parade, doing his best to talk me out of it. I’m gonna try his approach first. More later.

My best resource for this is an article on Wikipedia. I would say that TRADITIONALLY .org TLDs are used for non-profits here in the US and by convention it is still that way today.

Wikipedia explains a little more about .org.. While it is not a practice that I have engaged in, there is clearly wiggle room…
As a rule the use of .org TLD’s by businesses is not done, although quite a few buy the .org TLD simply to protect their trademarks.
I’d welcome other thoughts as well…
