You never know when inspiration will strike you … for me – in the strangest places.

In a comment I posted to Greg’s latest post regarding the irony of our President’s administration’s policies and actions regarding the current financial meltdown, I lamented that when I read the news, blogs and watch the news regarding this domino-effect collapse of our financial markets, I get so angry I can’t see straight.

My partner has banned me from CNN, NPR and talk radio.   This is not good for me – I am not one to sit in silence – at least not for long.

Banned from the TV and radio BUT not the PC!

Okay – to avoid driving everyone crazy, I decided to put my mad DJ skillz to work on Blip.fm – frequented by my fellow Twitterers.  Mindless entertainment – for me an opportunity not to sit in silence.   I love the fact that I can create my own playlist of favorite songs – my own virtual radio station.  Why can’t I download this list directly to my iPod?

Twitter has opened my eyes to so many new tools and sites – time vacuum is the technical classification for toys ..er tools like Blip.fm.

Anyway – in an attempt to clear my mind of the thoughts of politics and dreams lost while living under a sham, socially conservative, laissez-faire regime masked as a wholesale broker, casting a blind eye while stuffing the pockets of special interest, I decided to search for happy, uplifting songs written and sung by my favorite artists – armed with a double single malt scotch on the rocks parked next to the mouse.

My music taste is varied to say the least – open and non-judgmental – truly all inclusive really.  From good ol’ country to techno-80s – classical to jazz.  I mean – come on – how can you not like a song with words like “… I can’t get no satisfaction and my tractor don’t get no traction?”

Okay – maybe it’s just me.

** searching for happy and uplifting songs **

So – I come across a song titled “Fairy Tales” – sung by one of my favorite artists, Anita Baker.  I ran into her at Borders in Grosse Pointe, Michigan last year – and no, I didn’t knock her down – I didn’t literally run into her, if I did, I would have killed her – she’s about 4 feet tall – I’m 6’3″.  I was stunned at her stature.  How does she get that voice out of such a small body?  Man – she’s got pipes.

I play the song – ” … reality steps into view … no longer living lies in paradise …”

Terrific

… okay, so enough of Blip.fm.  Hmm – haven’t checked my hotmail account in awhile – let’s bounce over to MSN and see what’s cooking.

** avoiding any and all political news bits – even the story about the market jumping almost 400 points today reacting to the discussion regarding the possibility of creating a taxpayer backed, government sponsored corporation to purchase all of the bad debt on the books of bailed out banks, investment bankers and insurance company(s) **

Hmm – here’s a cool story about Ford introducing a new model that gets 65 mpgs and it isn’t a hybrid!

Geessshhh – it isn’t going to be available in the US.  I guess we won’t buy a car that gets 65 mpg’s while gas prices are north of $4 a gallon because we don’t like diesel.

Even so – if there were a market in North and South America, they’d build it in Mexico.

ENOUGH!!

Last time I checked, Michigan – more specifically the metro Detroit area was reeling from economic woes from the auto industry and the housing market collapse.  It won’t be long before GM, Ford and Chrysler will be at Paulson’s door asking for loan guarantees – maybe Sunday – seems to be the day for government assistance.

Perhaps there is a better role for government?  Maybe they could kill two birds with one stone – help climate change, the housing market and put people back to work – okay, that’s three birds …

In an interest to perhaps put Detroiters back to work, help the housing market and address alternative energy sources, may be government could help.

Public service announcements encouraging Americans to buy clean-burning diesel cars – maybe provide taxbreaks on American ones – or just ones made in America?

Maybe in exchange for loan guarantees, the federal government should demand that Ford, GM and Chrysler build in their own backyards.  If they can’t compete paying union wages in the US, perhaps health care reform might lower the cost of a car.

Maybe another loan stipulation should be higher fuel efficiency standards that are not completely based on fossil fuels.

I am sick and tired of idealogy standing in the way of solving problems that need to be solved – like 8 years ago.

Perhaps we do need an outsider to look at things differently.  Personally I’m not convinced it’s one with a running mate from a state that is closer to the Evil Empire than to the Lower 48.

Regardless of the outcome of this election – we’ve got shit to do and whoever is going to do it had best get at it.

Yeah yeah – ok – I was supposed to be listening to happy uplifting music – but like I said, sometimes inspiration strikes me in the strangest places.
