Front Elevation and Exterior There is as much to see outside this home as inside. The thoroughgoing restoration was truly a top-down project, starting with the roof. Layer after layer of asphalt shingles were torn away to reveal the original underlying Cedar shakes. These were removed and the roofing planks – planks, not plywood – were repaired or replaced. Then brand new Cedar shakes were installed, with the process for bending the shakes to the pronounced curvature of the roof being essentially re-invented in the back yard. The restoration effort extended to every facet of the exterior. The original windows were removed, repaired and re-installed. The stonework, damaged or destroyed over the years, was restored. A new cobbled driveway and front sitting area was installed. Everywhere you look you'll see thoughtful touches large and small, so many that the Architectural and Ornamentals Details section of this web page is itself divided into five separate web pages.
