We scorn philosophy at our peril. For more than a century and a half, Americans have been asking profoundly important philosophical questions — and giving the wrong answers.<\/p>\n

“What do the rights of the individual matter when people are starving?”<\/em><\/p>\n

“How can you worry about private property rights when people are homeless?”<\/em><\/p>\n

“Health care is a collective responsibility. Why should you be free to escape it even if you can<\/em> pay your own way?”<\/p>\n

“How dare you claim a right to personal autonomy when your personal autonomy is destroying the planet!?!”<\/em><\/p>\n
