Summarized, here are Barry Ritholtz&#8217;s <a title=\"Rules for Real Estate Agents\" href=\"http:\/\/bigpicture.typepad.com\/comments\/2007\/03\/rules_for_real_.html\">Rules for Real Estate Agents<\/a> (and smart move to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.themortgagereports.com\/2006\/12\/the_national_as.html\">not call them REALTORS?<\/a>):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Don&#8217;t try to sell me something I don&#8217;t want<\/li>\n<li>Answer my questions with the truth and in full, even if it will cost you the sale<\/li>\n<li>When showing a home, don&#8217;t point out the things I can see for myself. Point out the things I may miss.<\/li>\n<li>I told you what I can afford. Respect that.<\/li>\n<li>Ask questions that matter such as &#8220;What are you looking for in terms of architectural style?&#8221; or &#8220;How close would you like to be to the water?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Be a conduit to good negotiations, not an obstacle<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes, you just need to know when to stop talking<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Good stuff, for as Greg properly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=1094\">called me out in public<\/a>, I am selling my home right now and can understand Barry&#8217;s thought process.<\/p>\n<p>But, the reason why this post stood out to me was something buried in the comments from Pat Kitano. Real estate bloggers and even casual readers know that Pat is the brains behind the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.transparentre.com\">Transparent Real Estate Blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pat wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Spot-on&#8230; what I find unusual about your purely real estate article is the lack of participation by real estate bloggers in commenting. I author a real estate blog and I don&#8217;t recognize any names of my colleagues. It&#8217;s evidence of blogging&#8217;s reader segregation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I have been an avid reader of Barry&#8217;s blog since 2004 and The Big Picture was part of my inspiration to start blogging (along with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.behindthemortgage.com\">Alex Stenback<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raincityguide.com\">Dustin Luther<\/a>).
