{"id":11783,"date":"2010-04-20T11:00:55","date_gmt":"2010-04-20T18:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=11783"},"modified":"2010-04-20T10:36:04","modified_gmt":"2010-04-20T17:36:04","slug":"the-death-and-birth-of-a-salesman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/11783\/the-death-and-birth-of-a-salesman\/","title":{"rendered":"The Death and Birth of a Salesman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/SDEF-logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11784\" title=\"San Diego Equity Facts\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/SDEF-logo-300x67.jpg\" alt=\"San Diego Equity Facts\" width=\"300\" height=\"67\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/SDEF-logo-300x67.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/SDEF-logo.jpg 706w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bawldguy.com\/\">Jeff Brown<\/a> would think I&#8217;m long, long overdue.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/delmar.typepad.com\/\">Brian Brady<\/a>, in his staccato voice, would let me know it&#8217;s all good.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/\">Greg Swan<\/a> would smile.\u00a0 &#8220;He&#8217;s finally taking the step.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>All of you are in the business, both financially and personally, of real estate.\u00a0 As the years go by you literally create a real estate family around yourself.\u00a0 These family members include real people such as your TC, your title gal, your beloved escrow person, assorted very highly qualified lenders, associates with whom you like to exchange ideas and sometimes just BS with, and yes, even your web site(s).\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>I can&#8217;t see or talk with Greg every day, or most all of you, so the Bloodhound Blog becomes an appendage to our relationship.\u00a0 I see what&#8217;s on your mind.\u00a0 I hear what concerns you.\u00a0 I ponder your thoughts, your rationales, your pain and your ribaldry.\u00a0\u00a0 And if I&#8217;m fortunate enough, some of you will come to know me through what I write, or perhaps through my site.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>So it may come as a surprise to have me admit, and for anyone who knows how hard it is to become a welcomed writer to the Bloodhound community, that during this past year I have had to slowly watch a death in the family.\u00a0\u00a0 Well, really two deaths as you&#8217;ll see later on.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>First, my father-in-law, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=9119\">Dave McGregor<\/a>, an 84-year-old retired engineer, WWII veteran, and subsequent farmer who took up residence in Staunton, Virginia, came down with\u00a0 Alzheimer&#8217;s disease this past year.\u00a0 He became unable to drive, and he and mom moved out to San Diego to live with Beth and me.\u00a0 That happened in September.\u00a0 It was hard on them.\u00a0 Although just in the mid stages of Alzheimer&#8217;s, Dave seemed to be doing well enough, and was adjusting to his new life here when on Christmas Eve he took ill and was admitted to the hospital.\u00a0 Seven days later, on New Year&#8217;s Eve, we took him home to our place again, but this time with a diagnosis of CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia), and a need for immediate hospice.\u00a0 Twenty-three days later, oxygen machines humming in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/11783\/the-death-and-birth-of-a-salesman\/#more-11783\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jeff Brown would think I&#8217;m long, long overdue.\u00a0 Brian Brady, in his staccato voice, would let me know it&#8217;s all good.\u00a0 Greg Swan would smile.\u00a0 &#8220;He&#8217;s finally taking the step.&#8221;
