{"id":12213,"date":"2010-06-10T18:15:23","date_gmt":"2010-06-11T01:15:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=12213"},"modified":"2010-06-10T18:15:23","modified_gmt":"2010-06-11T01:15:23","slug":"are-we-losing-our-competitive-edge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/12213\/are-we-losing-our-competitive-edge\/","title":{"rendered":"Are we losing our competitive edge?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the start of the World Cup just hours away,\u00a0 I am reminded of the unrelenting competitive spirit that makes such events worth the wait (and trust me, I have been counting every single day since Germany in 2006).\u00a0 God-given talent can make one successful, but without that unwavering fire within the highest plateaus are unreachable.\u00a0\u00a0 Although Michael Jordan had an amazing ensemble cast to support him, you could see the determination in his eyes to single-handedly turn his team into a basketball dynasty.\u00a0 Lance Armstrong had insurmountable obstacles on his path, yet his blind determination led him yet again to the greatest of success in his sport and his place in history.\u00a0 There are countless stories (in sports, business, life) to illustrate this point, but I digress.<\/p>\n<p>Real estate is obviously a highly competitive field in which individuals are publicly recognized for their accomplishments, everything from Top 40 under 40, to Top 100, to Realtor of the Year, Inman 100, etc.\u00a0 But does it accurately reflect the competitiveness of the rest of Americans as a whole?\u00a0 I recently took my 10 year old nephew to his Tae Kwon Do tournament, in which trophies were handed out, not on the basis of merit or skills, but rather on a rotating basis (the ones who took &#8216;silver medals&#8217; this time, will inevitably get &#8216;gold medals&#8217; next time).\u00a0 Or have you been to those soccer\/baseball games where they don&#8217;t keep score?\u00a0 Sure, every person, whether a kid or adult,\u00a0 wants to be acknowledged as special, a true champion.\u00a0 But in so doing, are we embracing mediocrity?\u00a0 Is there something wrong with accepting being average without unnecessary accolades?\u00a0 Are other competing countries (i.e. China) teaching the same values to their future leaders?\u00a0 Your thoughts\/comments are welcomed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/competitive-spirit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-12214\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/competitive-spirit-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"competitive spirit\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/competitive-spirit-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/competitive-spirit.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Are we beginning to lose the competitive spirit that drives us to excellence, whether it is in business, sports, life?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":68,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_crdt_document":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[482,111],"class_list":{"0":"post-12213","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"hentry","6":"category-casual-friday","7":"tag-competition","8":"tag-success","10":"no-featured-image"},"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":15737,"url":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/15737\/two-years\/","url_meta":{"origin":12213,"position":0},"title":"Two Years","author":"Alex Cortez","date":"March 8, 2012","format":false,"excerpt":"Two years into a real estate career, I've learned a couple of things.
