{"id":12640,"date":"2010-07-10T14:00:45","date_gmt":"2010-07-10T21:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=12640"},"modified":"2010-07-10T14:00:45","modified_gmt":"2010-07-10T21:00:45","slug":"are-old-blog-posts-useless","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/12640\/are-old-blog-posts-useless\/","title":{"rendered":"Are Old Blog Posts Useless?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<em>How much traffic could you reasonably expect from blog posts that are a  couple of years old?<\/em>&#8221; <a title=\"active rain \" href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=12630#comment-275173\">asked Kaiholo Hale<\/a>, a <a title=\"maui vacation rental\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northshoremauivacations.com\/\">Maui vacation rental expert<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>My answer?\u00a0 A bunch of <strong>good<\/strong> traffic if the blog post is relevant.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll show you two of my little workhorses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Google &#8220;<a title=\"apartment loans san diego\" href=\"http:\/\/delmar.typepad.com\/brianbrady\/2006\/12\/hard_money_apar.html\">Apartment Loans San Diego<\/a>&#8221; and you&#8217;ll see that my post from December, 2006 is ranking second or third.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve funded about ten loans, most of them second mortgages, in the past 3 years from that blog post.\u00a0 I only make about $1,000 from each loan but they&#8217;re really easy to do.\u00a0 Few mortgage brokers have access to the capital I have to make these loans.<\/li>\n<li>Google &#8220;<a title=\"short sales and PMI\" href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;client=firefox-a&amp;hs=Qsg&amp;rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&amp;channel=s&amp;q=short+sales+and+pmi&amp;aq=f&amp;aqi=g1&amp;aql=&amp;oq=&amp;gs_rfai=\">Short Sales and PMI<\/a>&#8221; to find that I rank first for that term.\u00a0 The information on that post is some 10-12 years old so I need to update it.\u00a0 Still, this post generates about a dozen inquiries every month.\u00a0 I had to figure out how to make this post pay me so I built an opt-in email list for people who sold their homes via short sale.\u00a0 That led to another list for people who lost the home through foreclosure.\u00a0 Last fall, I stratified the lists by sale date so that I can &#8220;tickle&#8221; them as we approach their qualification date.\u00a0 Over 200 people have signed up for these newsletters but only s few dozen are still reading them.\u00a0 I add about five each month and expect that only one of those five will be &#8220;with me&#8221; in 2-3 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two little work horses should produce $50,000 annual GCI for me in 2011. <strong>I can do much better than that.<\/strong> Greg Swann once remarked that you can return to old blog posts and &#8220;polish them up&#8221;.\u00a0 You can update them, double check your grammar and spelling, and try to add some conversion tools or calls to action so that they can turn into GCI for you.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s see what I might do with my two:<\/p>\n<p>The apartment loans post is a quick conversion.\u00a0 People landing on that page want a loan and they want it quickly.\u00a0 I think I can add some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/12640\/are-old-blog-posts-useless\/#more-12640\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;How much traffic could you reasonably expect from blog posts that are a couple of years old?&#8221; asked Kaiholo Hale, a Maui vacation rental expert.
