Yesterday was no day at the beach.\u00a0 Okay, technically<\/em> I suppose you could twist the facts around and put a major league, curve ball spin on it and call it<\/em> a day at the beach.\u00a0 You know, if you want to get hung up on little details like how I spent the entire day at the beach.\u00a0 I packed up my two boys, an ice chest full of Cheetos and one large cantaloupe.\u00a0 (I didn’t bring a knife and apparently you don’t eat those things like an apple, so I returned with one empty ice chest and one large cantaloupe.)\u00a0 I met up with my\u00a0good friend and occasional confessor Brian Brady and his lovely daughter. \u00a0We were later joined by his wife, whom I’ll just call Mrs. Lance Armstrong Brady for\u00a0this story, and we spent an entire, glorious day at the beach.\u00a0 But other than that<\/em>, yesterday was no day at the beach.\u00a0 Yeah, okay, I see your point.\u00a0 Put it this way, it wasn’t a typical<\/em> day at the beach.<\/p>\n

For me, a typical day at the beach would mainly involve long discussions with Brian on solving the world’s problems (ask us sometime… we’ve got the whole thing whittled down to a small pamphlet) and occasionally testing the sandy hardness\u00a0of the ocean floor by falling off my boogie board.\u00a0 (This is all done purposefully and as part of my larger interest in oceanography.\u00a0 I could ride a wave on a boogie board if I wanted to…)\u00a0 Sometimes, just to spice things up, I see how long I can hold in my gut without passing out in front of an attractive,\u00a0bikini-clad woman.\u00a0 They usually do a surprisingly good job of pretending\u00a0to not even notice me, but we’re so\u00a0close to Hollywood\u00a0I assume most of them are just\u00a0acting…\u00a0 Anyway, that’s a typical day at the beach for me. \u00a0But not yesterday.\u00a0 Yesterday I was distracted by a gigantic hole.\u00a0 Yes, a hole… in the sand.\u00a0 Like\u00a0I said: not<\/em> your typical day at the beach.<\/p>\n
