{"id":15116,"date":"2011-09-19T06:31:01","date_gmt":"2011-09-19T13:31:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=15116"},"modified":"2011-09-19T06:45:15","modified_gmt":"2011-09-19T13:45:15","slug":"boston-globe-story-on-social-media-and-real-estate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/15116\/boston-globe-story-on-social-media-and-real-estate\/","title":{"rendered":"Boston Globe story on Social Media and Real Estate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"?p=15108\">With Jeff&#8217;s post below<\/a> still fresh in my mind, I read a story in the \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/realestate\/news\/articles\/2011\/09\/18\/real_estate_brokers_plug_in_to_social_media\/\">Boston Globe Real Estate section over the weekend<\/a>\u00a0that attempted to sort of let buyers and sellers know that brokers and agents are adapting to social media:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Although it\u2019s hard for Bourgeois to quantify just how many sales have come through social media, he believes that anecdotally it\u2019s working.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If you can&#8217;t measure it, you can&#8217;t manage it. Anecdotal ROI is worth about as much as having Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny create an account to use your IDX search.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cIf everyone is hanging out at the donut shop, that\u2019s where you would go to get business. That\u2019s where people would meet in the old days,\u2019\u2019 said Haley Brooks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>\n<p>This would be a typical real estate section non-article if it weren&#8217;t for Brook&#8217;s observation about the donut shop. She is right: Facebook, or a blog via Google, is where people who <em>already know you or about you<\/em> go to find you these days as opposed to the Lion&#8217;s Club,\u00a0 a little league game or, yes, the donut shop.<\/p>\n<p>This is born out by\u00a0 NAR&#8217;s 2010 Survey of Buyers and Sellers (click on the image to make it big enough to read):<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/how_agent_was_found.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15117\" title=\"how_agent_was_found\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/how_agent_was_found.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/how_agent_was_found.png 746w, https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/how_agent_was_found-300x132.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>48% of the people who bought in 2010 found their agent via a personal referral. &#8220;Internet Web sites&#8221; (as opposed to what other kind? Print Web sites?) is a distant 2nd with 10%, and I&#8217;m guessing that refers to traditional listing syndication and broker sites, not blogs or Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>Still, 10% is 10%. Clearly, you want to make sure that whatever you are doing on the Web to cement 50% of the leads from referrals works for the 10% who find you by accident or design.
