New York City and San Francisco<\/p>\n<p>The Bloodhounds have been talking about San Francisco and Manhattan&#8217;s death over on Facebook.\u00a0 The general consensus is that they have been ruined by Marxist mayors (they have) and become much too expensive for people to live, work and play (they have).\u00a0 The pandemic exacerbated these flaws and now that everyone is working from home, these cities are destined to crumble into ruin.<\/p>\n<p>Greg Swann fired a shot the other day, right here in Bloodhound Blog.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t dispute that both cities are in trouble.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-16791 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Housing-Supply-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"463\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Housing-Supply-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Housing-Supply-480x318.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Housing-Supply-768x509.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Housing-Supply.jpg 1155w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This graphic shows the growth in year-over-year housing inventory.\u00a0 While most of the country is experiencing actual declines in housing inventory (less homes for sale than the year before), NYC and San Francisco have more homes for sale than the year before.<\/p>\n<p>Some reasons for the decline in housing supply are:<\/p>\n<p>(1) homeowners are hunkering down because of the pandemic,<br \/>\n(2) some homeowners are in trouble and taking advantage of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/16638\/va-interest-rate-reduction-loans-irrl-and-forebearances\/\">mortgage forbearance program.<\/a>&#8212; they are delaying the inevitable sale,<br \/>\n(3) new housing construction has slowed or halter in most major cities.<\/p>\n<p>Greg Swann went so far as to suggest that cities <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/16746\/why-for-the-first-time-in-human-history-can-the-ants-so-easily-escape-the-grasshoppers-thats-easy-the-internet\/\">might be dead forever<\/a>, thanks to the internet and remote work opportunities.\u00a0 While his criticism of poorly run cities is valid, the notion that the future of work is a &#8220;laptop in the basement&#8221;
