{"id":1760,"date":"2007-08-07T07:48:49","date_gmt":"2007-08-07T14:48:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=1760"},"modified":"2007-08-07T07:50:48","modified_gmt":"2007-08-07T14:50:48","slug":"new-york-times-discovers-earth-mr-sulzberger-tear-down-that-wall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/1760\/new-york-times-discovers-earth-mr-sulzberger-tear-down-that-wall\/","title":{"rendered":"New York Times discovers Earth: &#8220;Mr. Sulzberger, tear down that wall!&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Says <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/seven\/08072007\/business\/timesselect_content_freed_business_holly_m__sanders.htm\" target=\"_blank\">the <i>New York Post<\/i><\/a>, the <i>New York Times<\/i> is about to remove the paywall that conceals from public awareness its once-famous (even if smarmy and tendentious) op-ed columnists:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The New York Times is poised to stop charging readers for online access to its Op-Ed columnists and other content, The Post has learned.<\/p>\n<p>After much internal debate, Times executives &#8211; including publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. &#8211; made the decision to end the subscription-only TimesSelect service but have yet to make an official announcement, according to a source briefed on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The timing of when TimesSelect will shut down hinges on resolving software issues associated with making the switch to a free service, the source said.<\/p>\n<p>Times spokeswoman Catherine Mathis would only say in an e-mailed statement, &#8220;We continue to evaluate the best approach for NYTimes.com.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While other online publications were abandoning subscriptions, the Times took the opposite approach in 2005 and began charging for access to well-known writers, including Maureen Dowd, Frank Rich and Thomas L.
