An expert on the &#8220;takings&#8221; clause of the Fifth Amendment (&#8220;nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation&#8221;), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.econtalk.org\/archives\/2007\/09\/epstein_on_prop.html\" target=\"_blank\">in the linked podcast<\/a>, he<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>makes the case that many current zoning restrictions are essentially &#8220;takings&#8221; and property owners should receive compensation for the lost value of their land.
