It was Teri who first brought up the idea of musical themes for Unchained. At that time, I wrote this to her in email:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Here is why I like Unchained:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The idea of free or even feral dogs\n<\/li>\n<li>Unleashed implies has-been-leashed or will-be-leashed-again, but unchained can\u00a0suggest never-having-been-chained\n<\/li>\n<li>Again unlike unleashed, unchained has connotations of human slavery or imprisonment, and hence manumission or liberation\n<\/li>\n<li>The word looks and sounds hard and edgy, promoting a hard and edgy graphic representation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.presenceofmind.net\/GSW\/About.html\" target=\"_blank\">These metaphors are not new to me<\/a>, nor is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=1487\" target=\"_blank\">the metaphor of dancing<\/a>. I don&#8217;t actually care about dancing, but I care a lot about metaphors.<\/p>\n<p>Teri cares about dancing, though, so we start with this, Fred and Ginger, George and Ira and all that jazz:<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"355\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/1L0a1pecLCI&#038;rel=1\"><\/param><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\"><\/param><\/object><\/p>\n<p>I like that talented-nebbish-gets-the-girl thing, and I like the idea of people growing into their own moral authority, and who better to express those ideas in dance than&#8230; Jim Carrey&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"355\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/jZ1ryFXAKq4&#038;rel=1\"><\/param><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\"><\/param><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Finally there&#8217;s this, from the King of Soul, James Brown:<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"355\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/RqdYBT-b2aI&#038;rel=1\"><\/param><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\"><\/param><\/object><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dtqDB2spyG0\" target=\"_blank\">Teri found a better version<\/a>, but it can&#8217;t be embedded.<\/p>\n<p>Are you dancing to a different beat? <a href=\"mailto:GregSwann@BloodhoundRealty.com?subject=Unchained melodies\">Tell us what we&#8217;re missing<\/a> &#8212; but be patient.
