{"id":2408,"date":"2007-12-23T08:20:17","date_gmt":"2007-12-23T15:20:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=2408"},"modified":"2007-12-26T15:20:01","modified_gmt":"2007-12-26T22:20:01","slug":"haiku-is-for-for-thumbsuckers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/2408\/haiku-is-for-for-thumbsuckers\/","title":{"rendered":"Haiku (is for) for thumbsuckers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Big eyes<br \/>\nChubby thighs<br \/>\nCute as a spoon<br \/>\nCarol Boone<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The above little\u00a0mind spill\u00a0was my first and only\u00a0critically acclaimed\u00a0poem (if you\u00a0consider\u00a0scribbling\u00a0on a 6th grade blackboard a literary forum, and being suspended from school the first week back from summer vacation,<em> critical)<\/em>. I quickly chalked\u00a0the ditty while\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=2403\">ninety-and-eight<\/a> of my classmates\u00a0went\u00a0scrambling into the\u00a0cafeteria for their lunchtime milk and porridge, those teeming, hopeless\u00a0non-romantics.\u00a0The unenlightened are so&#8230;well, sixth grade.<\/p>\n<p>The words popped into my head like a thumb snap\u00a0and\u00a0I felt\u00a0at once, an uncontainable\u00a0resolve to share with the world,\u00a0my\u00a0self-proclaimed perfect rhyme.\u00a0She was the most social of all the\u00a0pre-teen butterflies that\u00a0term and had,\u00a0with near lightspeed and\u00a0between Harvest moons almost, evolved\u00a0from her caterpillar\u00a0larval state into the colorful and elusive <em>Carolboonemus Papillionus<\/em>.\u00a0I hated her. I loved her. I would eventually do the elementary school equivilant of <em>hard time<\/em>\u00a0because of\u00a0her.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, it was the cigarettes in my knapsack that got me sent away that day but the poem on the chalkboard didn&#8217;t help&#8211;the <em>Administration<\/em>\u00a0wasn&#8217;t thrilled with the word <em>thighs,<\/em> or that I noticed they were in fact, a little chubby,<em> or<\/em> that I erased\u00a0the first two (pretty\u00a0important, apparently)\u00a0letters of <em>Pythagorean&#8217;s Theorem<\/em> from the afternoon lesson of a higher grade<em>.<\/em>\u00a0 And thinking about it now, it&#8217;s probably the only reason I even <em>remember<\/em> that darn postulate with all those right angles and square roots at all.<\/p>\n<p>It was pretty clear from that juncture\u00a0foward in life\u00a0that I would never\u00a0really be corporate (or political) material, no matter well\u00a0I cleaned up. \u00a0My record was blighted early on.\u00a0Perhaps I should have just begun\u00a0working on\u00a0my real estate career\u00a0right then and there (it<em>\u00a0was<\/em>\u00a0after all, one of the easier tests I&#8217;ve ever taken). <em>That<\/em>, or\u00a0started\u00a0honing my\u00a0free lance jingle writing\u00a0chops for the likes of Leo\u00a0Burnett, <em>et al<\/em>. Either way, one thing <em>would<\/em> soon become evident to this\u00a0perennial independent contractor; no\u00a0matter which way I turned in life, there stood I&#8230;straddling\u00a0that always present line that was drawn by someone else&#8211;real, imaginary, or otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>Let me\u00a0point out\u00a0that in the vast universe of\u00a0the written word, Haiku (5-7-5, so what?), limericks and elementary school poetry\u00a0rank only\u00a0slightly above\u00a0the <em>Nursery Rhyme.<\/em> Maybe below<em>.<\/em>\u00a0You can argue if you\u00a0wish but I stand pretty firm on this point. <em>You Tube<\/em>, in my opinion,\u00a0also has to hover somewhere <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/2408\/haiku-is-for-for-thumbsuckers\/#more-2408\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Big eyes Chubby thighs Cute as a spoon Carol Boone The above little\u00a0mind spill\u00a0was my first and only\u00a0critically acclaimed\u00a0poem (if you\u00a0consider\u00a0scribbling\u00a0on a 6th grade blackboard a literary forum, and being suspended from school the first week back from summer vacation, critical).
