I’m a Dan Kennedy disciple, a card-carrying member of the Glazer-Kennedy Inner Circle<\/a>.\u00a0 I read his book, The Ultimate\u00a0Marketing Plan<\/a>, six years ago, and was hooked.\u00a0 Gene Simmons is one of the keynote speakers at the GKIC\u00a0Super Conference<\/a>, this April.\u00a0 I listened to an interview with Gene Simmons today about his message for this April’s Super Conference.\u00a0 Oh, if you’re wondering why I listen\u00a0when a 70’s rock and roller talks, it’s because he’s a marketer<\/a>; a damned fine one.\u00a0\u00a0 Here are some snippets from the interview.\u00a0 I think it may give you a glimpse to why I think the way I do about marketing.<\/p>\n

1-You only get the respect you demand.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gene tells a story about his advice to a fifteen-year old girl.\u00a0 He advised her to get over the idea that people’s perception of you somehow defines you.\u00a0 He continued by saying that you are only as important as you believe you are; how you perceive yourself is eventually how others behold you.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Does your marketing message convey that?\u00a0 I’m not talking about ego.\u00a0 Do you truly believe that you are an expert agent or originator?\u00a0 This isn’t about “act, as if”, it’s about demonstrated expertise.\u00a0 Can you deliver the goods?\u00a0 If your\u00a0self- perception is less than expert, correct the flaws that hold you back.\u00a0<\/p>\n

2- Originality is overrated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I don’t think I could agree more.\u00a0 To the doers come the riches, not the thinkers.\u00a0 Anyone can have a great idea; it’s the implementers, the innovators, the action-based people who change the world.\u00a0 Gene Simmons called KISS a pastiche; part rock and roll, part comic book, and part horror show.\u00a0 A great example of pastiche,in theater, \u00a0is Quentin Tarantino.\u00a0 Neither Gene Simmons nor Quentin Tarantino “created”, they innovated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Are you constantly planning or constantly doing?\u00a0 I talk to agents and originators, daily, about their customer acquisition systems\u00a0 Sadly, most explanations are long on ideas and short on action.\u00a0<\/p>\n

3- Marketing is the most important thing you can do.\u00a0 If the market is crowded, move the market.<\/strong><\/p>\n
