{"id":2811,"date":"2008-03-20T06:12:18","date_gmt":"2008-03-20T13:12:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=2811"},"modified":"2008-03-20T14:22:12","modified_gmt":"2008-03-20T21:22:12","slug":"real-estate-is-entertainment-%e2%80%93-are-you-entertaining","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/2811\/real-estate-is-entertainment-%e2%80%93-are-you-entertaining\/","title":{"rendered":"Real Estate is Entertainment \u2013 Are You Entertaining?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I heard my pal Walt Baczkowski, CEO of the Metropolitan Consolidated Association of REALTORS\u00ae, make the statement, \u201creal estate has become entertainment.\u201d\u00a0 The statement struck me like one of those V8 smacks to the head.\u00a0 The more I thought about it, the more the statement became true.\u00a0 Just look at the local TV cable listings and you\u2019ll see shows like Flip That House, Home Makeover, Designed to Sell, House Hunters, etc.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realitytvworld.com\/news\/real-estate-reality-tv-shows-remaining-hot-despite-cooling-markets-6680.php\">Real Estate is Cold; Real Estate TV Hot<\/a> proclaimed RealityTVWorld.com recently.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In addition to reality TV, many shows like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbs.com\/primetime\/two_and_a_half_men\/bio\/holland_taylor\/bio.php\">Two and a Half Men<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tv.com\/reba\/show\/1409\/summary.html\">Reba <\/a>have supporting characters that are real estate agents.\u00a0 Unfortunately, these shows often portray agents is a rather unflattering manner.<\/p>\n<p>In my little neck of the woods, real estate has been one of the top 10 news stories for the past 4 years (number 1 for a few years), and we have 2 or 3 media inquiries a week wanting an interview for this or that real estate issue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So if you buy into the premise that real estate has become entertainment, I ask you \u201care you entertaining?\u201d\u00a0 If you are a REALTOR\u00ae, you are likely charming and engaging (I think that is required by Article 18 in the Code of EthicsJ), but are your marketing efforts interesting, informing and\/or humorous?\u00a0 Are you using YouTube for the goldmine it can be?\u00a0 Are you still doing the same ad layouts you used 5 years ago?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This post is not intended to give you the answers, but I hope it will help you understand the questions you need to ask.\u00a0 Below are links to some examples of entertaining REALTOR\u00ae marketing efforts.\u00a0 You probably do not want to copy these, but you should seek out your niche in this new paradigm.\u00a0 Consumers want something in return for paying attention to your marketing \u2013 what will you give them?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Kuluq7cgOBY\"><font color=\"#800080\" face=\"Arial\">The Hot Tub REALTOR\u00ae<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Arial\"> &#8211;
