{"id":2953,"date":"2008-04-12T09:28:57","date_gmt":"2008-04-12T16:28:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=2953"},"modified":"2008-04-12T10:12:26","modified_gmt":"2008-04-12T17:12:26","slug":"big-news-on-data-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/2953\/big-news-on-data-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"Big News on Data Standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"right\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.photodropper.com\/creative-commons\/\" title=\"creative commons\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/wp-content\/plugins\/photo_dropper\/\/images\/cc.gif\" alt=\"Creative Commons License\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.photodropper.com\/photos\/\">photo<\/a> credit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/people\/wfyurasko\/\" title=\"wfyurasko\">wfyurasko<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"right\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/55676959@N00\/2385674185\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3071\/2385674185_a0c78d36dd_m.jpg\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI\u2019m guessing that the main purpose of BHB is not to spread the news \u2013 especially NAR news. \u00a0Being the resident NAR insider on BHB, I promise I will not use this site to spread NAR propaganda\u2026er\u2026news.\u00a0 But this quiet piece of information is actually VERY big and I doubt it will get much attention outside the hallowed halls (or ivory towers, if you prefer) of the REALTOR\u00ae organization.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, April 11<sup>th<\/sup>, NAR announced that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rets.org\/cms\/files\/RESO_Governance_Policy_and_Procedures_Revision_1.3.pdf\">Real Estate Standards Organization<\/a> (RESO) had unanimously approved a \u201cdraft standardized data format for distributing real estate listing information.\u201d \u00a0Okay, I expect that most of you NAR skeptics are not particularly impressed by that bit of news, but let me try to explain why I think this is important.<\/p>\n<p>First, you should understand this was not a group of NAR leaders in a back room filled with cigar smoke that agreed to this draft.\u00a0 Yes, NAR helped organize this group, but check out this list of organizations\/companies that UNANIMOUSLY agreed to a set standard:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The standard was drafted and unanimously approved by a RESO working group composed of NAR\u2019s Center for REALTOR\u00ae Technology and many of the real estate industry\u2019s leading publishers and consumers of real estate listing data. They include MLS Assistant, MLS Listings Inc., MLSPIN, New Jersey MLS, TREND MLS, Move Inc. (operator of Realtor.com\u00ae), Bridge Interactive, Bainbridge, Cevado Technologies, CLRsearch, eNeighborhoods, eShowings, FBS Data Systems, Google, Homescape, Marketlinx, Oodle, Point2, PropBot, Prudential Preferred CRE, RealEstate.com, Realtracs, ThreeWide, Trulia, Vast, Yahoo! and Zillow.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now approving a \u201cdraft\u201d means there is likely more work to do, but this is an important first step in making listing data seamless on the Internet and between MLS systems. \u00a0What\u2019s the next step?\u00a0 According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realtor.org\/press_room\/news_releases\/2008\/nar_and_partners_agree_on_syndication_standard.html\">news release<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The draft standard will be implemented immediately by several of the partner organizations.
