{"id":3029,"date":"2008-04-27T17:46:22","date_gmt":"2008-04-28T00:46:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=3029"},"modified":"2008-04-27T19:00:02","modified_gmt":"2008-04-28T02:00:02","slug":"update-on-new-data-standards-for-listing-displays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/3029\/update-on-new-data-standards-for-listing-displays\/","title":{"rendered":"Update On New Data Standards for Listing Displays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April 12th, I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=2953\">posted some \u201cnews\u201d<\/a> from NAR regarding the unanimous approval by RESO (Real Estate Standards Organization) of the draft data standards for listing display.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>On Friday, April 11th, NAR announced that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rets.org\/cms\/files\/RESO_Governance_Policy_and_Procedures_Revision_1.3.pdf\">Real Estate Standards Organization<\/a> (RESO) had unanimously approved a \u201cdraft standardized data format for distributing real estate listing information.\u201d \u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A few of you wanted more information, so I contacted NAR\u2019s Technology Center and got the full scoop.<\/p>\n<p>First, the draft is NOT available on-line, at least in a format that non-techies can read.\u00a0 Here is a link to <a href=\"http:\/\/rets.org\/cms\/developer\/syndication\">some really technical stuff<\/a> for those of you who know what an \u201cenum\u201d is all about (I do not have a clue).<\/p>\n<p>Second, I found out that these standards are a subset of the RETS data.\u00a0 The RETS Syndication Standards (the official name) includes less than 2 dozen fields (I\u2019ve heard 14) from RETS.\u00a0 That sounds like a lot of field at first, but once you count up the obvious ones (e.g., agent name, contact, beds, baths, etc.) that is not very many.\u00a0 Not that I\u2019m second guessing the wizards who came up with this stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the near riff I reported in the original post was reasonably accurate.\u00a0 The big aggregators were tired of the slowness and bureaucracy of the process, but after they threatened to create their own standards, the process moved very quickly.\u00a0 Essentially, they are beta testing now and will make the final decision in August.<\/p>\n<p>So, what does this mean to REALTORS\u00ae?\u00a0 Here\u2019s what Chris McKeever from NAR said in an e-mail:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>With the RESO and NAR backing of this Syndication Specification, this could very easily be adopted into MLS systems to allow them to be the clearinghouse for data transfer between all points.\u00a0 In other words, your single point of listing data entry into the MLS could then also dynamically be sent to every site that you choose, very similiar to how REALTOR.com is fed now.\u00a0 This, coupled with the growing number of consumer facing MLS search portals(link) could throw a complete paradigm shift into how listings are marketed on the web.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On April 12th, I posted some \u201cnews\u201d from NAR regarding the unanimous approval by RESO (Real Estate Standards Organization) of the draft data standards for listing display.
