{"id":3080,"date":"2008-05-10T04:43:41","date_gmt":"2008-05-10T11:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=3080"},"modified":"2008-05-10T04:43:41","modified_gmt":"2008-05-10T11:43:41","slug":"an-open-letter-to-russell-shaw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/3080\/an-open-letter-to-russell-shaw\/","title":{"rendered":"An Open Letter To Russell Shaw"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Mr. Shaw,<\/p>\n<p>When I first read you were leaving Bloodhound Blog, I was quite concerned that perhaps you were suffering a health problem, or a family tragedy.\u00a0 When you reappeared as a new member in a different online community, I was very relieved to learn that you were alive and well.<\/p>\n<p>Online communities are constantly changing, active members become inactive, new people join bringing new ideas that sometimes alter the character of the original group.\u00a0\u00a0 Your leaving Bloodhound Blog does not bother me.\u00a0 I truly wish you well in the online community you have now joined.<\/p>\n<p>It does, however, bother me that you withdrew from the Bloodhound Blog Unchained conference with less than two weeks on the calendar before the conference begins.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know the particulars, of course, but I would imagine that you made a commitment to speak, and the conference organizers made plans based on that commitment.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t doubt that some people made plans to attend the conference because of your commitment to speak there.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Shaw, I like and respect you, so I want to say this as gently as possible, but unless a serious personal tragedy is involved,\u00a0 backing out of a commitment you made is just simply not an OK way to behave.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If my understanding of the situation is incorrect, please forgive me.\u00a0 And please understand that the conference organizers did not ask me to write this letter, they are not even aware that I am writing it.\u00a0 Someone needed to say this publicly, and I felt compelled to do so.<\/p>\n<p>While I myself adhere to no particular belief system, a client of ours once gave me a little booklet titled &#8220;The Way to Happiness&#8221; which I found to contain simple, common sense advice.\u00a0 Let me quote a couple sentences:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Keep your word once given.\u00a0 When one gives an assurance or promise or makes a sworn intention,\u00a0one must make it come true.\u00a0 If one says he is going to do something, he should do it.&#8221;<br \/>\nRespectfully,<\/p>\n<p>CJ<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Mr. Shaw, When I first read you were leaving Bloodhound Blog, I was quite concerned that perhaps you were suffering a health problem, or a family tragedy.\u00a0 When you reappeared as a new member in a different online community, I was very relieved to learn that you were alive and well.
