{"id":3114,"date":"2008-05-13T20:38:38","date_gmt":"2008-05-14T03:38:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=3114"},"modified":"2008-05-14T06:47:46","modified_gmt":"2008-05-14T13:47:46","slug":"to-z-or-not-to-z","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/3114\/to-z-or-not-to-z\/","title":{"rendered":"To Z or Not To Z?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><em>That is the question.\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" width=\"198\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mediabistro.com\/unbeige\/original\/bill%20shakespeare.jpg\" height=\"297\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Whether \u2018tis noble in the mind to suffer<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Or take arms against a sea of troubles,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And by not opposing them?\u00a0 To die:to sleep;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>No more; and by a sleep to say we end<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I started this post with what I thought was a cute title, but then I looked at the actual Shakespeare soliloquy and saw that it was quite appropriate to this post.\u00a0 The \u201cZ\u201d in the title is for Zillow \u2013 the latest in a long list of challengers to Realtor.com for supremacy in Internet traffic for real estate eyeballs.\u00a0 There are other relatively new sites \u2013 Trulia, etc. \u2013 but Zillow seems to have captured the imagination of both the public and REALTORS\u00ae.\u00a0 Maybe it\u2019s the cute name or the even cuter play on words with \u201cZestimates,\u201d but the one site everyone seems to remember is Zillow.\u00a0 It has almost become a clich\u00e9 term for Internet listing aggregators.\u00a0 Not bad for a site that has only been around for a year and a half.<\/p>\n<p>But this post is not about Zillow; rather I wanted to explore the question of whether it make sense for local MLS systems to send their listing data to Zillow (or any other aggregator).\u00a0 A recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/05\/12\/technology\/12ecom.html?_r=1&amp;adxnnl=1&amp;ref=todayspaper&amp;adxnnlx=1210599425-f7BN9uvsULXg3CGgcGHvaA&amp;oref=slogin\">New York Times article<\/a> provides a good framework of the discussion, but leaves out most of the \u201cslings and arrows\u201d that need to be considered before we willy nilly send MLS data to any site that wants it.\u00a0 Before you draw any conclusions as to my opinion on sending listing data to Zillow, let me say I could argue either \u201cTo Z, or Not To Z.\u201d\u00a0 This post will focus a bit more on the slings and arrows, but Times article does a good job of making the other side of the argument.\u00a0 Frankly, I am undecided on this question and I encourage you to approach this discussion with an open mind. <\/p>\n<p>We recently had this discussion in the Technology Group of the Charlottesville Area Association of REALTORS\u00ae (CAAR).\u00a0 There were strong opinions stated on both sides of the debate.\u00a0 Advocates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/3114\/to-z-or-not-to-z\/#more-3114\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>That is the question.\u00a0 Whether \u2018tis noble in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or take arms against a sea of troubles, And by not opposing them?\u00a0 To die:to sleep; No more; and by a sleep to say we end.\u00a0 I started this post with what I thought was a [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":35,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_crdt_document":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[6,5,25],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-3114","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"hentry","6":"category-marketing","7":"category-real-estate","8":"category-zillowcom","10":"no-featured-image"},"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":17107,"url":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/17107\/the-news-is-not-that-zillow-is-going-to-have-agents-its-going-to-have-newbies-for-agents\/","url_meta":{"origin":3114,"position":0},"title":"The news is not that Zillow is going to have agents.
