The times are indeed changing.\u00a0 I am not a real estate salesperson.\u00a0 I am\u00a0the broker\/co-owner of a small real estate office.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Please put the hammer away, Greg<\/a>.\u00a0 My partner Bob, and I, opened it up\u00a0precisely in order to\u00a0own our own\u00a0systems,\u00a0 and develop our own approach to business.\u00a0 Initially, it was just us, but after over 25 years in the business I realized I wouldn’t mind having a few agents on board to help\u00a0with the heavy lifting.\u00a0 And while I certainly don’t want to milk any underlings, there are bills to pay.<\/p>\n

So here’s the question … In true Web 2.0 spirit I am putting it out to the community.<\/p>\n

Gentle readers, if you were\u00a0a broker-owner of a small independent real estate office, just precisely how would you structure\u00a0your business\u00a0to survive in the Web 2.0 world?\u00a0 Or is\u00a0the extinction of the broker\/salesperson model so close and inevitable that it would not be worth the effort?<\/p>\n

Could a small independent brokerage reinvent itself\u00a0based on, say,\u00a0a team concept?\u00a0\u00a0What commission split would you offer agents?\u00a0 What services would you provide for agents, or not provide?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
