{"id":3885,"date":"2008-08-14T15:18:01","date_gmt":"2008-08-14T22:18:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=3885"},"modified":"2008-08-14T15:34:52","modified_gmt":"2008-08-14T22:34:52","slug":"i-fear-the-geeks-especially-when-bearing-gifts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/3885\/i-fear-the-geeks-especially-when-bearing-gifts\/","title":{"rendered":"I fear the Geeks, especially when bearing gifts."},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"Arial;\">I\u2019m not sure if it was <a href=\"..\/?p=3857\">Greg\u2019s post welcoming me to Bloodhound Blog<\/a> or if it is last name \u201cH\u201d week for the Hi-Tech cold callers\u2026but my phone has been ringing off the hook with people trying to <span style=\"line-through;\"><span style=\"line-through;\"><span style=\"line-through;\"><span style=\"line-through;\"><span style=\"line-through;\">sell<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> (give) me stuff to enhance my web 2.0 career.<span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The pitch<\/strong>, has been very simplistic in nature:<span> <\/span>The vendor is willing to give me their product\/service for free or at a drastically reduced rate.<span> <\/span><strong>IF<\/strong>, I will recommend it to the agents in my office and the ones that read my blog.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The close, \u201c<\/strong>Isn\u2019t this a great deal!<strong><span> <\/span><\/strong>What do you have to lose?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What do I have to lose?<span> <\/span>Let me shuffle my feet and look down at them with my hands in my pockets. <span> <\/span>Ummmmm.<span> <\/span>Geee. <span> <\/span>I don\u2019t know.<span> <\/span>How about my reputation with the people that I work for and depend on me to make sound decisions?<span> <\/span>How about the respect of people who read me and trust me to make reputable endorsements?<span> <\/span>If those aren\u2019t good enough reasons how about all the money that I could lose?<span> <\/span>Money lost when agents figure out that I\u2019m willing to sell my soul for free products\/services on their dime.<span> <\/span>Referrals that might not come in if I recommend based off personal gain instead of success.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you really want my business?<\/strong><span> <\/span>Do you really want me to recommend you?<span> <\/span>Would you really like me to write about how your product\/service is the greatest thing since IMAP on my iPhone?<span> <\/span>Do you really want to improve my web 2.0 career?<\/p>\n<p>First, I\u2019m not looking for a handout.<span> <\/span>Times are hard but I\u2019m not offering to give away my services.<span> <\/span>You shouldn\u2019t either.<span> <\/span>People pay me a lot of money to sell their homes.
