{"id":4149,"date":"2008-08-29T17:16:22","date_gmt":"2008-08-30T00:16:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=4149"},"modified":"2008-08-29T17:16:22","modified_gmt":"2008-08-30T00:16:22","slug":"mortgage-market-week-in-review-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/4149\/mortgage-market-week-in-review-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Mortgage Market Week in Review&#8230;.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry this is a little late.\u00a0\u00a0 Had a closing out of town and it tied up a lot of my afternoon.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span><span><span style=\"Arial;\"><strong>Happy Labor Day weekend! <\/strong>I hope that you take some time to enjoy a very relaxing weekend on the last long weekend of the summer.\u00a0\u00a0 Due to the fact that it\u2019s the Holiday Weekend, I\u2019m not going to make this as long as some of the others have been.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 So here\u2019s what\u2019s been going on in the mortgage world:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span><span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span><span><span style=\"Arial;\">1. <strong>Fannie and Freddie<\/strong> &#8211; while nothing has changed substantially, the immediate market fears over Fannie and Freddie have diminished somewhat.\u00a0\u00a0 I guess you could describe it as a situation where it\u2019s still cloudy and rainy, but the worst of the storm has passed for now.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span><span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span><span><span style=\"Arial;\">2. <strong>Credit Markets<\/strong> &#8211; there is continuing fear and questions regarding the status of the credit markets.\u00a0\u00a0 How big of a problem is there floating under the water yet?\u00a0 I\u2019ve heard rumblings that as Fannie and Freddie\u2019s shares have fallen in value and as it\u2019s rumored that when (not if) the Fed does bail out Fannie and Freddie, the shares will go to zero.\u00a0\u00a0 Many banks own substantial shares in those two companies and a reduction in their holdings to zero will require additional writedowns and additional belt tightening on their parts.\u00a0\u00a0 That\u00a0doesn\u2019t bode well for the health of the banks.\u00a0\u00a0 Speaking of banks, there\u2019s some questions about a certain bank out in California (Washington Mutual) because they are currently offering CD rates that are approximately 25% higher than the going rates most banks are paying.\u00a0\u00a0 The thinking is that they are paying higher rates because they need cash and need it desperately.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span><span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span><span><span style=\"Arial;\">3.<strong> Economic reports<\/strong> &#8211; the Gross Domestic Product report came in much stronger than expected.\u00a0\u00a0 Does that mean that the economy is going well?\u00a0\u00a0 Let\u2019s put it this way, the aircraft industry had a very good quarter.\u00a0\u00a0 The vast majority of the increase came because of the aircraft industry.\u00a0\u00a0 Apparently some airlines are upgrading their fleets to improve fuel efficiency.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Consumer Confidence came in higher than expected as well.\u00a0\u00a0 The market consensus seemed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/4149\/mortgage-market-week-in-review-8\/#more-4149\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry this is a little late.\u00a0\u00a0 Had a closing out of town and it tied up a lot of my afternoon.
