Pat Kitano from TranparentRE sent a nice note about Steven Pavlina<\/a> so I went looking for more<\/a>. This is from his article “10 Stupid Mistakes Made by the Newly Self-Employed”:<\/p>\n

1. Selling to the wrong people.
\n2. Spending too much money.
\n3. Spending too little money.
\n4. Putting on a fake front.
\n5. Assuming a signed contract will be honored.
\n6. Going against your intuition.
\n7. Being too formal.
\n8. Sacrificing your personality quirks.
\n9. Failing to focus on value creation.
\n10. Failing to optimize.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One point I might add is learning to master your own time. The only benefit I can think of to having a job is that there’s always someone to tell you to get busy. Not so for the self-employed. If you don’t learn to monitor and manage the hours of your days, you’ll be back on the clock in no time.<\/p>\n
