(Or Creating a local, independent, powerhouse brokerage)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Bob and I opened our own office, Bob Taylor Properties, Inc.\u00a0in 2000.\u00a0\u00a0Good  friend and friendly competitor Dan Jordinelli had  already opened\u00a0his own office, Jordinelli and  Associates,\u00a0 in 1986.\u00a0\u00a0 I like to think that over the years both offices have  built up some recognition and respect.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>A few weeks ago, Dan  approached us  with a proposal.\u00a0 Dan wants to close his office and join us. He wants to get  back in the field and do what he loves: Sell real estate. Oh, and some of his  agents want to come along.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>So, as the global financial markets are collapsing,\u00a0amidst this ruin of all  space, shattered glass and toppling masonry,\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been rather preoccupied with  the notion of\u00a0creating a local, independent, powerhouse brokerage in Northeast  Los Angeles, in this new, post-bail-out\u00a0era of real estate.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>I&#8217;ve read all Sean Purcell&#8217;s\u00a0posts <a id=\"b1y.\" title=\"here\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=3535\">here<\/a>, <a id=\"zmkx\" title=\"here\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=3556\">here<\/a>, <a id=\"mqyf\" title=\"here\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=3617\">here<\/a>, and  <a id=\"ndf0\" title=\"here\" href=\"http:\/\/mysteryhouseblog.com\/2008\/08\/06\/the-new-real-estate-model-part-32-patrick-dunne-purcell-a-real-estate-firm\/\">here<\/a> all Mike Farmer&#8217;s posts <a id=\"tovt\" title=\"here\" href=\"http:\/\/bonzai.squarespace.com\/blog\/2008\/5\/31\/real-estate-team-20-a-team-of-rainmakers-with-one-coach.html\">here<\/a>,  <a id=\"lapi\" title=\"here\" href=\"http:\/\/bonzai.squarespace.com\/blog\/2008\/6\/1\/real-estate-team-20-teamwork-compensation.html\">here<\/a>,  <a id=\"f5cs\" title=\"here\" href=\"http:\/\/bonzai.squarespace.com\/blog\/2008\/5\/31\/real-estate-team-20-marketing-information-management-and-spe.html\">here<\/a>,  <a id=\"h02y\" title=\"here\" href=\"http:\/\/bonzai.squarespace.com\/blog\/2008\/6\/2\/real-estate-team-2008-deepening-the-bonds-that-bind.html\">here<\/a>,  <a id=\"jy7k\" title=\"here\" href=\"http:\/\/bonzai.squarespace.com\/blog\/2008\/6\/2\/real-estate-team-20-coachleaderownerbottle-washer.html\">here<\/a>,  and <a id=\"la0f\" title=\"here\" href=\"http:\/\/bonzai.squarespace.com\/blog\/2008\/6\/3\/real-estate-team-20-team-7-realty.html\">here<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0But,  in the end,\u00a0while the new models and structures suggested are very intriguing,  \u00a0I\u00a0decided on a simple, basic, traditional commission split model.\u00a0 Agent gets XX%.\u00a0 Company  gets XX%.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Branding? I have no concern over agents designing their own logos,  their\u00a0own business cards with their color schemes,\u00a0and running their own  businesses\u00a0in a way that works for them.\u00a0 I want only core concept associated  with my company:\u00a0 Excellence.\u00a0 I want our people recognized as the most  knowledgeable and most competent.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>However, there is one area where I do want to impose some structure:\u00a0 The  taking and marketing of listings.\u00a0 Marketing a listing as Greg demonstrates in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abetterlisting.com\">http:\/\/www.abetterlisting.com<\/a> is a definable, perfectible praxis.\u00a0 No matter which agent in the company they list  with, I want sellers to know they can expect\u00a0proper pricing, good preparation  and presentation, good photography, a custom web-site, custom signage.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Meanwhile, there are practical and pragmatic issues to address.\u00a0 I usually  identify myself as a &#8220;high-functioning hoarder&#8221; so the process of making room  for several new people in the office has been interesting.\u00a0\u00a0 My Ebay\/Etsy photo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/4889\/meanwhile-back-at-the-ranch-or-creating-a-local-independent-powerhouse-brokerage\/#more-4889\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bob and I opened our own office, Bob Taylor Properties, Inc.\u00a0in 2000.\u00a0\u00a0Good friend and friendly competitor Dan Jordinelli had already opened\u00a0his own office, Jordinelli and Associates,\u00a0 in 1986.\u00a0\u00a0 I like to think that over the years both offices have built up some recognition and respect.
