Whatever you do, don&#8217;t look in the newspaper . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have a bunch of Phoenix-area real estate news piling up in browser tabs, so I want to reference it now, before it blows away in the autumnal desert breezes.<\/p>\n<p>First, more fake good news downtown: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/arizonarepublic\/news\/articles\/0929cityscape0929.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Phoenix is putting in place the final building block in its plan to construct a new downtown.&#8221;<\/a> How? What are you, new? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/news\/articles\/0929city-financing0929.html\" target=\"_blank\">Massive tax-payer subsidies, of course.<\/a> How else? But, not to worry. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/arizonarepublic\/news\/articles\/0929urban0929lifestyle.html\" target=\"_blank\">This will be the piece that completes the puzzle for a true downtown in Downtown Phoenix.<\/a> Pay no attention to all those other, past, failed pieces that were to complete the puzzle. This is the real deal, you betcha. If you say otherwise you&#8217;re a counter-revolutionary running-dog imperialist wrecker. Oops! Wrong propagandists&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But don&#8217;t get the idea that <i>Pravda<\/i> &#8212; er, the <i>Arizona Republic<\/i> can&#8217;t issue a discouraging word: It turns out that trolley riders, if there are any, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/arizonarepublic\/news\/articles\/0928railpark0928.html\" target=\"_blank\">may have trouble finding shaded parking<\/a>. If they can find any shaded parking <i>now<\/i>, in this benighted pre-trolley epoch, they should move to Vegas. They&#8217;re beyond lucky&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But at the same time, don&#8217;t conclude that the <i>Republic<\/i> can&#8217;t strain at gnats over a good press release: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/arizonarepublic\/business\/articles\/0928biz-swv-seniors0928.html\" target=\"_blank\">Active-adult housing is popular in the Southwest Valley<\/a> &#8212; even though there almost isn&#8217;t any. The article justifies its spin by stretching as far as Sun City Festival &#8212; which is in the Northwest Valley. (Disclosure: I am a long-time friend and confederate of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hortondaughters.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Horton<\/a>, who wrote the biography of Ed Robson, founder and owner of Robson Communities, which in turn owns PebbleCreek, the principle focus of this article.)<\/p>\n<p>Did I say something about the Northwest Valley? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/php-bin\/clicktrack\/print.php?referer=http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/community\/peoria\/articles\/0927gl-parkway27Z2.html\" target=\"_blank\">Here comes the Northern Parkway<\/a>, to relieve all the traffic out there where nobody lives &#8212; yet. The City of Glendale, which used to end at 67th Avenue, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/arizonarepublic\/business\/articles\/0930biz-gl-leaf0930.html\" target=\"_blank\">is going to extend itself miles and miles further west<\/a> so that its tax-payers can delight in subsidizing thousands of new homes along the incipient SR-303 Freeway.<\/p>\n<p>All of this serves as a nice way of distinguishing capitalism from mixed-economy socialism. <i>None<\/i> of this would be happening if our real estate economy were governed by capitalist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/489\/want-to-know-where-real-estate-corruption-comes-from-whatever-you-do-dont-look-in-the-newspaper\/#more-489\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a bunch of Phoenix-area real estate news piling up in browser tabs, so I want to reference it now, before it blows away in the autumnal desert breezes.
