{"id":6260,"date":"2008-12-26T10:05:40","date_gmt":"2008-12-26T17:05:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=6260"},"modified":"2008-12-26T10:05:40","modified_gmt":"2008-12-26T17:05:40","slug":"do-you-know-how-to-iron","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/6260\/do-you-know-how-to-iron\/","title":{"rendered":"Do You Know How to Iron?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I attended a Christmas dinner party earlier this week.\u00a0 It followed the script of most such dinner parties, which is to say: it was remarkable &#8211; the same way almost all social gatherings turn out to be remarkable.\u00a0 They start slow: a few people in various corners of the living room, their conversations hushed and directed at the same person who accompanied them through the door not ten minutes earlier.\u00a0 Then the wine is opened, some appetizers are laid out and enough people show up that a tipping point occurs.\u00a0 As if by design the conversation hubs begin to move, some groups grow in size while others diminish, strangers are pulled in and couples become less dependent upon each other.\u00a0 Eventually, the dinner is served and new friends engage in cross conversations around the table.\u00a0 It is a predictable, if not awkward transformation leading to a unique treasure each and every time.<\/p>\n<p>This party was no different.\u00a0 I sat down on the couch and was soon engaged in a wonderful conversation.\u00a0 Forced to guess her age I would say sixty, but she could have been seventy and she could have been fifty.\u00a0 She was well traveled and she was observant.\u00a0 It was easy to sense a certain wisdom in her person and I was fascinated.\u00a0 She had recently returned from a trip to Europe and exuded a confident happiness that intrigued me.\u00a0 &#8220;What&#8217;s the secret?&#8221; I asked.\u00a0 She looked at me for a moment, trying to gauge whether I would understand her answer I supposed, then replied, &#8220;I iron my clothes now.&#8221;\u00a0 She could see in my face that I was confused and I could see in hers that she had gauged correctly.\u00a0 &#8220;Over in Europe, people still <em>care<\/em>,&#8221;\u00a0 and she went on to explain how Europeans were more considered in the clothes they wore and how they looked.\u00a0 This appealed to her in comparison with the casualness prevalent in America.\u00a0 So&#8230; now she irons her clothes every morning.\u00a0 It requires a little extra time and a little extra effort but it makes her day special.<\/p>\n<p>I thought about that conversation all the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/6260\/do-you-know-how-to-iron\/#more-6260\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I attended a Christmas dinner party earlier this week.\u00a0 It followed the script of most such dinner parties, which is to say: it was remarkable &#8211; the same way almost all social gatherings turn out to be remarkable.\u00a0 They start slow: a few people in various corners of the living room, their conversations hushed and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":36,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_crdt_document":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[13,212],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-6260","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"hentry","6":"category-casual-friday","7":"category-flourishing","9":"no-featured-image"},"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":3386,"url":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/3386\/project-bloodhound-great-debaters-making-the-most-of-comments-with-conversations-and-controversy\/","url_meta":{"origin":6260,"position":0},"title":"Project Bloodhound: Great debaters: Making the most of comments with conversations, and controversy","author":"Teri Lussier","date":"July 19, 2008","format":false,"excerpt":"Jeff Brown talked about this at Bloodhound Unchained: A thoughtful comment is an art and one you should practice; it can show the world who you are, what you think, what you have to offer.
