When I saw this a few days ago on BHB<\/a>, I was not sure I could come up with anything “helpful”.<\/p>\n

Like most folks, when I first looked at engenu<\/a> last year, I just didn’t “get” it.\u00a0 In fact, I didn’t “get”\u00a0 it until just yesterday when I decided to take on\u00a0this little challenge.<\/p>\n

Understanding the power of engenu requires one fundamental paradigm shift.\u00a0 And that shift is this:\u00a0 Folders become pages. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

When you build a standard-issue web site, you think in terms of pages. If you are creating a web site for, say, \u00a0a listed property, you most likely have a page for the property description, another page talking about the neighborhood, another page for your bio and contact information, etc.<\/p>\n

In engenu, folders become pages<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In engenu, you add a folder<\/em><\/strong> for a particular topic, instead of creating a page<\/strong><\/em> for that topic. And when you process that folder<\/em><\/strong> through engenu, that folder becomes a page<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 For example, to create a page<\/strong><\/em> for your bio information, you start with an empty folder<\/em><\/strong> named “about me.”<\/p>\n

If the very first page you created in engenu was a slideshow from a folder full of images, that’s great, and engenu does that\u00a0extremely well, but if that is all you did, you may have missed the necessary paradigm shift.<\/p>\n

To experience the paradigm shift, try this instead:<\/p>\n

The prerequisites are a). Have engenu installed and working on one of your sites, and b). Have an FTP program and an basic idea of how to use the FTP program.<\/p>\n

Start your FTP program, and in the panel for your local computer create a new folder.\u00a0 Name the folder “About Me”.\u00a0 That’s it.\u00a0 Leave it as an empty folder.<\/p>\n

Still in the FTP program, connect to your server\/host.<\/p>\n

Upload the empty folder to your server\/host.<\/p>\n

Exit the FTP program and go to yoursite.com\/engenu.\u00a0 Click on the name of the folder (About Me) and engenu’s editor will open.\u00a0 Paste a short\u00a0bio into the “Body copy” text box.\u00a0 Click “Save and Continue”\u00a0 then click “Preview Saved Changes” Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
