{"id":7716,"date":"2009-04-07T18:22:46","date_gmt":"2009-04-08T01:22:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=7716"},"modified":"2009-04-07T18:22:46","modified_gmt":"2009-04-08T01:22:46","slug":"please-get-out-of-my-facebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/7716\/please-get-out-of-my-facebook\/","title":{"rendered":"Please Get Out of My Face(book)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Part of my core schtick at<a title=\"Top of Mind Networks\" href=\"http:\/\/www.topofmind.com\" target=\"_blank\"> Top of Mind<\/a> is to ask my prospects two critical questions about email marketing:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1)\u00a0 Why are so many companies leveraging email as their primary vehicle for communicating with clients and prospects?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two reasons &#8211; email is cheap and email is easy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)\u00a0 Why are you getting 200+ emails in your inbox every day?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Exactly.\u00a0 Cheap and easy creates a low barrier to entry&#8230; and a low barrier to entry creates clutter.\u00a0 Clutter is a marketer&#8217;s worst enemy.\u00a0 Bad news folks &#8211; Facebook is cheap and easy too.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m very fortunate to have some groovy friends in the mortgage industry &#8211; and after my <a title=\"Facebook Webinar with Brian Brady\" href=\"http:\/\/www.topofmind.com\/blog\/index.php\/2009\/02\/webinar-replay-brian-brady-on-facebook-and-social-networking\/\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook Webinar with Brian Brady<\/a>, I made even more of them.\u00a0 Now I&#8217;m getting my new friends&#8217; updates and:<\/p>\n<p>75% of the time they&#8217;re telling me it&#8217;s time to refinance, locking loans or boring me with industry vernacular I don&#8217;t understand.<\/p>\n<p>20% of the time they&#8217;re giving me a play by play on what they&#8217;re eating, what color tie they&#8217;re wearing or something else I really don&#8217;t care about<\/p>\n<p>Okay, so now we&#8217;ve identified the problem.\u00a0 Next step is fixing it.\u00a0 Here are some best practices I&#8217;ve seen and a few I haven&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Keep an eye on your frequency.<\/strong><\/span> Here&#8217;s a general rule of thumb: the more compelling and fresh your status updates are, the more frequency you can get away with.\u00a0 I think the sweet spot is 3 updates a week so long as they can pass the next test&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Before updating your status, ask yourself if anyone really cares.<\/strong><\/span> How many of your 250 friends care that you&#8217;re getting ready for bed?\u00a0 For me, that&#8217;s the equivalent of tuning into MIX 96 FM and hearing &#8220;I&#8217;ll Tumble For Ya&#8221; by Culture Club.\u00a0 I&#8217;m flailing like a maniac for the next station even if it causes a 57-car pile up.\u00a0 If I hear enough Culture Club on MIX 96, they&#8217;re off my speed dial FOREVER.\u00a0 Same goes for my Facebook pals.\u00a0 Sorry, just keepin&#8217; it real.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Have a strong take on something topical &#8211; politics, current events, sports, etc.<\/strong><\/span> You don&#8217;t have to tell your friends that you&#8217;re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/7716\/please-get-out-of-my-facebook\/#more-7716\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Part of my core schtick at Top of Mind is to ask my prospects two critical questions about email marketing: 1)\u00a0 Why are so many companies leveraging email as their primary vehicle for communicating with clients and prospects?
