{"id":8913,"date":"2009-06-16T09:48:10","date_gmt":"2009-06-16T16:48:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=8913"},"modified":"2009-06-16T09:48:10","modified_gmt":"2009-06-16T16:48:10","slug":"darwin-and-the-notorious-nar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/8913\/darwin-and-the-notorious-nar\/","title":{"rendered":"Darwin and the Notorious NAR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the most powerful outcomes of attending an REBarcamp isn&#8217;t necessarily attending the many great discussions during the day, but the great conversations and discussions which take place over a beer after the meeting is over.\u00a0 I also believe that REBC &#8211; now after experiencing yesterday&#8217;s REBCCHI &#8211; is the real personification of a virtual tool &#8211; a living and breathing example of how Twitter converts 140 characters into 140+ face to face meetings and discussions.\u00a0 Followers carry more weight when they transform from the virtual world to the real world.<\/p>\n<p>For me, the most meaningful discussion took place at the end of the day.\u00a0 Todd Carpenter, NAR&#8217;s Social Media Guru, invited the CEO of NAR, Dale Stinton, to share his thoughts and address questions posed by the group.\u00a0 His initial stance was somewhat defensive, however, during his discussion I gained a somewhat different perspective regarding the challenges that NAR is seeking to address and overcome.<\/p>\n<p>NAR&#8217;s largest challenges is to address the needs and the ranks of the young professional.\u00a0\u00a0 Attempts by NAR to try to level the playing field may be difficult because of entitlement issues with older members.\u00a0 Of the 1,500 boards throughout the country, 200 or so wield the most power.\u00a0 Many of the larger, more influential boards may not embrace attempts to level the playing field for younger, more independent brokers.\u00a0 Hence, Dale encouraged everyone to get involved in the boards to influence change.<\/p>\n<p>I think NAR is evolving.<\/p>\n<p>Come the end of 2009, NAR is rolling out two intiatives that have been more than a few years in development:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>RPR &#8211; Real Property Repository &#8211; to all NAR members, a database consisting of the property attributes including tax records etc. for 70 million properties in the US, allowing members to provide comments and additional information to the unique property description.<\/li>\n<li>A consumer focused website, equivalent to Realtor.org.\u00a0 It is NAR&#8217;s response to providing everything a consumer needs to know about real estate.\u00a0 Again, consumer focused versus member focused.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Timeline again for both is slated for fourth quarter, 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Okay &#8211; so now RPR appears to be an almost national MLS, provides data <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/8913\/darwin-and-the-notorious-nar\/#more-8913\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the most powerful outcomes of attending an REBarcamp isn&#8217;t necessarily attending the many great discussions during the day, but the great conversations and discussions which take place over a beer after the meeting is over.\u00a0 I also believe that REBC &#8211; now after experiencing yesterday&#8217;s REBCCHI &#8211; is the real personification of a [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":47,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_crdt_document":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,30,19],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-8913","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"hentry","6":"category-disintermediation","7":"category-supplanting-the-nar","8":"category-technology","10":"no-featured-image"},"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":7308,"url":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/7308\/brief-links-todd-carpenter-at-rebarcamp-virginia-active-rain-versus-move-and-why-the-kindle-iphone-app-is-too-little-too-late\/","url_meta":{"origin":8913,"position":0},"title":"Brief links: Todd Carpenter at REBarCamp Virginia, Active Rain versus Move and why the Kindle iPhone app is too-little, too-late","author":"Greg Swann","date":"March 4, 2009","format":false,"excerpt":"Daniel Rothamel made a UStream video of Todd Carpenter's appearance yesterday at REBarCamp Virginia.
