{"id":8941,"date":"2009-06-20T11:21:10","date_gmt":"2009-06-20T18:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=8941"},"modified":"2009-06-20T23:46:30","modified_gmt":"2009-06-21T06:46:30","slug":"the-problem-with-agents-theyre-not-selfish-enough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/8941\/the-problem-with-agents-theyre-not-selfish-enough\/","title":{"rendered":"The Problem With Agents: They&#8217;re Not Selfish Enough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I talk to a lot of real estate agents and if there is one universal problem I see, it&#8217;s this: you are not <em>selfish<\/em> enough &#8211; not nearly selfish enough.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll explain that in a minute.\u00a0 First, let me ask:\u00a0 how many reading this took auto-shop in high school?\u00a0 I&#8217;m guessing maybe half.\u00a0 Of those that took auto-shop, how many actually work on their own cars?\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 You don&#8217;t take it so you can grow up and work on your car.\u00a0  You take it so when your car breaks down you have a clue what might be wrong with it.\u00a0  You want to know if the repair shop is taking care of you or just taking you for a ride.\u00a0  The importance of <strong>wide-ranging knowledge<\/strong> is even greater for agents.\u00a0  The real estate business is a difficult one in the best of times and it&#8217;s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">always<\/span> time consuming.\u00a0  It encompasses so many different areas, you may not need auto-shop (although I recommend it),\u00a0 but you do need Mortgage-shop, Title-shop, Escrow-shop, Sign-shop, Web Site-shop, Appraisal-shop, Home Inspection-shop, Staging-shop and on and on.\u00a0 Obviously you can&#8217;t be an expert in all these areas, but just like auto class, you should know enough to make sure you &#8211; <em>and your clients<\/em> &#8211; are being taken care of rather than just taken for a ride.\u00a0 Beyond that the most important thing you can do is surround yourself with a team that excels in these areas.\u00a0 Herein lies the problem for which I titled this post:\u00a0 real estate agents are not nearly selfish enough&#8230; with their time.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to share one perspective on how big an impact this can have on your bottom line.\u00a0  Last Wednesday I was involved with three different events affecting over $1.7 million of real estate transactions.\u00a0  For the math challenged, that&#8217;s $51,000 in real estate commissions.\u00a0 I&#8217;m writing this from a lender perspective because that&#8217;s what I am, but it&#8217;s all about the agents.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Early on Wednesday we funded a VA purchase loan for a little over $700,000. \u00a0 Not remarkable in and of itself;\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/8941\/the-problem-with-agents-theyre-not-selfish-enough\/#more-8941\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s the thing to remember:  Lance Armstrong&#8217;s time is not any more valuable then yours or mine, he&#8217;s just more aware of it&#8217;s value than most of us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":36,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_crdt_document":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[13,212],"tags":[378,377],"class_list":{"0":"post-8941","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"hentry","6":"category-casual-friday","7":"category-flourishing","8":"tag-relationships","9":"tag-time","11":"no-featured-image"},"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":9331,"url":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/9331\/is-activerain-selling-loan-officers-an-exlusive-opportunity-or-just-selling-their-real-estate-agents-out\/","url_meta":{"origin":8941,"position":0},"title":"Is ActiveRain Selling Loan Officers An Exclusive Opportunity, Or Just Selling Their Real Estate Agents Out?","author":"Mark Madsen","date":"July 29, 2009","format":false,"excerpt":"I've received a few emails and calls from my loan officers this week about some new exclusive opportunity that Activerain.com is pitching to the mortgage industry.
