{"id":8988,"date":"2009-06-26T03:20:04","date_gmt":"2009-06-26T10:20:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=8988"},"modified":"2009-06-26T03:20:04","modified_gmt":"2009-06-26T10:20:04","slug":"how-do-you-measure-the-true-success-of-innovation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/8988\/how-do-you-measure-the-true-success-of-innovation\/","title":{"rendered":"How Do You Measure The True Success Of Innovation?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greg&#8217;s recent post about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=8943\" target=\"_blank\">Bloodhoundblog&#8217;s innovation contribution<\/a> to the real estate industry created the typical debate over dinosaurs vs. Web 2.0.<\/p>\n<p>However, there were several good points about the difference between innovation and success.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d like to argue that innovation is a <em>component <\/em>of success, as is <a href=\"http:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/article\/139838-google-where-failure-is-instructive\" target=\"_blank\">failure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you&#8217;re <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=6490\" target=\"_blank\">skinning cats the 1.0 way<\/a>, exploring the potential of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=8052\" target=\"_blank\">complete virtual realty solution<\/a>, mixing a creative <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=8243\" target=\"_blank\">listing landing page<\/a> with a direct mail campaign, or putting your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=8261\" target=\"_blank\">referral relationships<\/a> to full use, the simple fact that most of us are still left in the game to have these discussions is a small sign that we&#8217;re all successful in one manner or another.<\/p>\n<p>It is hard to deny that the industry is rapidly changing, especially with regards to the way we leverage the web to communicate to our clients and colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>By the time something has been proven, its already old news and can&#8217;t really be considered innovative.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does innovation mean to me? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In order to have a productive conversation about the actual value of an innovative idea, I think it is important that we first agree on a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Innovation\" target=\"_blank\">common definition of innovation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I hear words tossed around like Top Producer, high conversions, leads to loans&#8230;.\u00a0 which don&#8217;t mean much to me unless those are the results I&#8217;m expecting when I buy a product.<\/p>\n<p>But to me, innovation is more of a way of life vs a business decision.\u00a0 I&#8217;m always looking for ways to make something or someone better, without living in fear of failure.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t need social proof from the masses to build my confidence.\u00a0 Matter of fact, if everyone is already doing something well, then I&#8217;m even more motivated to find a different, more efficient way of accomplishing the same goal.<\/p>\n<p>My loving and patient wife has to deal with these character traits every day.\u00a0 And to make things worse on her, my 2 year old daughter is showing signs of following in her father&#8217;s patterns.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t be more proud.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, I just wasn&#8217;t designed to wait around on other people to prove that an innovative idea can be successful.\u00a0 Maybe its because I focus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/8988\/how-do-you-measure-the-true-success-of-innovation\/#more-8988\" class=\"more-link\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greg&#8217;s recent post about Bloodhoundblog&#8217;s innovation contribution to the real estate industry created the typical debate over dinosaurs vs. Web 2.0.
