I’m not that guy who loves forwarding funny emails, but my father-in-law sent one to me that I had to share because it could totally apply to our industry.<\/p>\n

Either way, I thought it would make for a little Friday fun.<\/p>\n

This is a true phone call from the Word Perfect Help line which was transcribed from a recording monitoring the customer care department.<\/p>\n

Needless to say the Help Desk employee was fired.<\/p>\n

“ABC computer assistance; may I help you?”<\/p>\n

“Yes, well, I’m having trouble with Word Perfect.”<\/p>\n

“What sort of trouble?”<\/p>\n

“Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went
\naway.”<\/p>\n

“Went away?”\n<\/p>\n

“They disappeared.”<\/p>\n

“Hmm. So what does your screen look like now?”<\/p>\n

“Nothing.”<\/p>\n

“Nothing?”<\/p>\n

“It’s blank, it won’t accept anything when I type.”<\/p>\n

“Are you still in Word Perfect, or did you get out?”<\/p>\n

“How do I tell?”<\/p>\n

“Can you see the C: prompt on the screen?”<\/p>\n

“What’s a sea-prompt?”<\/p>\n

“Never mind, can you move your cursor around the screen?”<\/p>\n

“There isn’t any cursor: I told you, it won’t accept anything I type.”<\/p>\n

“Does your monitor have a power indicator?”<\/p>\n

“What’s a monitor?”<\/p>\n

“It’s the thing with the screen on it that looks like a TV. Does it
\nhave a little light that tells you when it’s on?”<\/p>\n

“I don’t know.”<\/p>\n

“Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power
\ncord goes into it. Can you see that?”<\/p>\n

“Yes, I think so.”<\/p>\n

“Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it’s plugged into
\nthe wall.”<\/p>\n

“Yes, it is.”<\/p>\n

“When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two
\ncables plugged into the back of it, not just one?”<\/p>\n

“No.”<\/p>\n

“Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the
\nother cable.”<\/p>\n

“Okay, here it is.”<\/p>\n

“Follow it for me, and tell me if it’s plugged securely into the back
\nof your computer.”<\/p>\n

“I can’t reach.”<\/p>\n

“Uh huh. Well, can you see if it is?”<\/p>\n

“No.”<\/p>\n

“Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over?”<\/p>\n

“Oh, it’s not because I don’t have the right angle — it’s because it’s
\ndark.”<\/p>\n

“Dark?”\n<\/p>\n

“Yes, the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in
\nfrom the window.”<\/p>\n

“Well, turn on the office light then.”\n<\/p>\n

“I can’t.”<\/p>\n

“No? Why not?”<\/p>\n
