{"id":9753,"date":"2009-09-12T21:04:03","date_gmt":"2009-09-13T04:04:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=9753"},"modified":"2009-09-12T21:04:03","modified_gmt":"2009-09-13T04:04:03","slug":"why-we-should-rename-it-smp-social-media-prospecting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/9753\/why-we-should-rename-it-smp-social-media-prospecting\/","title":{"rendered":"Why We Should Rename It SMP (Social Media Prospecting)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I asked <a title=\"smm are dead\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodhoundrealty.com\/BloodhoundBlog\/?p=9698\">if SMM were dead<\/a> as a precursor to <a title=\"par\" href=\"http:\/\/activerain.com\/blogsview\/1220963\/social-media-marketing-waste-of-time-\">our session with the Phoenix Association of REALTORs<\/a>. \u00a0 A few of y&#8217;all mentioned that social media was helpful as a lead generation tool. \u00a0I suggested this yesterday and \u00a0I want to be perfectly clear about the utility of social sites as lead generation pools.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Serially creating overly commercial, spammy messages on your Facebook status bar is never going to be effective<\/strong>. \u00a0Kelley Koelher once said in <a title=\"brian brady\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lK3fMFRogzo\">my Unchained session<\/a> that you&#8217;re supposed to be SOCIAL on social media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I don&#8217;t disagree<\/strong>. \u00a0I often liken your behavior on social media like a party, wedding, or community event. \u00a0If you showed up to cousin Fred&#8217;s wedding and handed out your business card, you should be tossed out on your ear. \u00a0If \u00a0bride Wilma&#8217;s sister asks you &#8220;<em>What&#8217;s the market doing<\/em> ?&#8221;, it makes sense for you to get her number and reconnect with her a week later.<\/p>\n<p>Now, more than ever, prospecting is paramount to success as a REALTOR. \u00a0Consider this video of Gary Keller and Jay Papasan, discussing the shift from marketing to prospecting.<br \/>\n<object width=\"500\" height=\"405\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/8yuk1tslcck&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1&#038;color1=0x5d1719&#038;color2=0xcd311b&#038;border=1\"\/><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"\/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"\/><\/object><br \/>\n<strong>Here are my takeaways:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>the 8 X 8 is about cementing a relationship. \u00a0These can be phone calls, interactive comments on social media sites, e-mails, and postcards. \u00a0I think 3-4 different forms of media touches hardens the relationship cement quickly<\/li>\n<li>the 33 touch is about saturation. \u00a0I can&#8217;t stress enough that you must have permission to continue this saturation strategy on a prospective client<\/li>\n<li>The monthly newsletter is a non-threatening way to buy brain cells. \u00a0My yellow postcard might only be read for the 8 seconds it takes to go from the mailbox to the wastepaper basket but it does get read. \u00a0I get calls from it.<\/li>\n<li>The principles of direct marketing are more important now than ever.
